was an apostle of the 70 - one of the 70 disciples of
Saint˜Luke Christ whom the Lord Himself chose in the last year of
His earthly life and gave them the same instructions as the twelve apostles, He sent
them to preach the Gospel throughout the world. In 62 - 63 AD in Rome, the Apostle
Luke wrote the Gospel, therefore he is regarded by the Church as an apostle and
evangelist - the author of the canonical Gospel. The apostle Luke joined the second
missionary journey of the apostle Paul. After the martyrdom of Paul, Luke left Rome
and preached the sermon in Achaea, Libya, Egypt and Thebes. At the age of 85, he
was crucified in the city of Thebes on an olive tree.

on the apostles (Pentecost) is one of the twelve greatest Christian holidays. is event,
which was the ful llment of Old and New Testament prophecies, tells us how the grace of
God promised to them, descended upon the closest disciples and followers of Jesus. e
iconography of the icon represents the apostles sitting in a semicircle on which the Holy
Spirit descends. Inside their nimbuses are inscribed the tongues of re: the apostles are
honored by the Holy Spirit from the Savior Himself according to His promise
they saw tongues like •ames of a re that separated and came to rest on
each of them. In the center of the apostolic semicircle is the Virgin with
the same tongue of re. e apostles Peter and Paul are present on
the icon, although they were not in Zion’s room at that moment.
However, due to their merits, they were depicted along with the
other disciples of Christ. Books and scrolls in the hands of all
the twelve apostles are symbols of their church teachings.

ца) – один из двунадесятых христианских праздников.
Это событие, явившееся исполнением ветхозаветных и
новозаветных пророчеств, рассказывает о том, как на
ближайших учеников и последователей Иисуса снизошла
обещанная им благодать Божья. Иконография праздника
представляет сидящих полукругом апостолов, на кото-
рых нисходит Святой Дух. Внутри их нимбов вписаны
язычки пламени: апостолы удостоены просвещения Свя-

XIX century центре апостольского полукруга изображена Богородица
с таким же язычком пламени. Среди апостолов на иконе

момент в Сионской горнице не было. Однако в силу своих
заслуг стали изображаться вместе с остальными учени-
ками Христа. Книги и свитки в руках всех двенадцати
апостолов – символы их церковного учительства.
