Epiphany˜great feast holidays,
otherwise called the Baptism of the Lord, as on that
day the Church recalls the baptism of the Savior
from John the Baptist in the Jordan River. e
holiday was called the Epiphany because during the
baptism of Jesus Christ there was a manifestation
of all three Persons of the Divine and Holy Trinity:
the Father spoke with a voice from heaven, and the
Holy Spirit descended on Jesus Christ in the form
of a dove, con rming the words of the Father. In
the center of the icon
composition Christ is depicted a naked in the waters of
the Jordan. Above the Savior standing in the water is a
segment of the sky from which the dove descends to
Christ - the symbol of the Holy Spirit and the rays of
the «triune light.» On the le side of the composition,
John the Baptist lays the right hand on the head of
Christ. On the right side, the three angels bow to Christ.
Богоявление - великий двунадесятый праздник, иначе назы-
ваемый Крещением Господним, так как в этот день Церковь
вспоминает крещение Спасителя от Иоанна Предтечи
в реке Иордан. Праздник был назван Богоявлением, потому
что при крещении Иисуса Христа было явление всех трех Лиц Бо-
жества: Отец гласом с неба свидетельствовал о Сыне, и Святой
Дух в виде голубя снизошел на Иисуса Христа, подтверждая сло-
ва Отца. В центре композиции изображен обнаженный Христос

The icon of the
the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ, who was known for
his deep knowledge of the Word of God and the
Holy Scriptures. After the Ascension of the Lord, the
Apostle Philip preached the Word of God in Galilee
in Greece, in Syria, Asia Minor, in Arabia, Ethiopia
and Phrygia, accompanying the preaching with
miracles. On the orders of the ruler of the city
of Hierapolis of Phrygia, the apostle received
martyrdom on the cross.
Prayer to the Apostle Philip has a miraculous
power. The faithful pray to the Apostle in the
fight against the passions and temptations,
in the search for truth, God-pleasing life
and ridding one of premature death without
repentance and the acceptance of the holy
sacrament.

wedding ceremony of Simon, his stepbrother,
Jesus Christ created his first miracle, namely,
he transformed water into wine. Seeing

this, the newly-made bridegroom
believed in his brother Jesus Christ
and became his zealous follower

and disciple. Simon is especially
revered in Abkhazia, where he
converted hundreds of pagans to
Christianity.
